Welcome, Kurt Kollmann
Merced Union High School District Trustee, District 5 Assistant Coach, Men’s Swimming and Water Polo
What is your role at Merced College?
I am currently the assistant coach at Merced College for men’s swimming and water polo. I am a graduate of Merced College, Class of 1981 (AA in Business Administration). I was also a member of the 1979-81 men’s water polo and swimming teams, and served as ASMC President in Fall 1980.
What part of your job do you enjoy most?
I love the opportunity to represent the community as a member of the MUHSD Board of Trustees and to continue working with the students and staff of the district.
Tell us about yourself. What brought you to Merced College?
I graduated from Merced High School in 1978 and wanted to go to college. Merced College was a logical step in my plan to continue to pursue a college degree.
This is where I was able to take advantage of several opportunities to explore what I wanted for a career. Mr. Bob Pollitt was a big influence on my pursuit of becoming a high school coach.
What inspired you to pursue public office?
I worked in public education for 37 years, 22 of which I worked in the Merced Union High School District. I found this was a place where creating experiences for all students to explore was important for our community and families.
What are your hopes or plans for the future, both on the school board and at Merced College?
I enjoy working with the men on both of the teams I assist with, and feel I still have something to offer in the way of coaching. As for being a board member, I look forward to working to continue to provide opportunities for our communities and families.
What do you like to do outside of work?
As a retired person, I like to spend time with my family.
